Expert Secrets Series:
Graphic Design
What makes the Two Fellas Media Team so brilliant is that not only are we excellent at what we do, we are all passionate about developing our individual skills and skills we have as a team. Each individual team member has a specialised area of expertise, but that doesn't mean we're ever boxed into one job. We are always expanding our skillset, our mindset and we are up for (almost) anything!

That being said, each team member excels within their niche. We believe that shared knowledge is power, and because of this, the Expert Secrets Series was born. Here, our team members share their top tips to level up your game within their niche. From social media marketing to copywriting, from graphic design to videography, and from winning at a Two Fellas Media internship to running a successful team - we'll cover everything.

So get out your favorite pen and some paper, and get ready to learn from the best of the best!
Our Graphic Design Goddess, Nicola, is here to take you through her top graphic design tips:
⠀1. Attention to detail is key
When designing anything, paying attention to small details makes the world of difference. I learnt that attention to detail is non-negotiable when I studied Fine Art, specialising in printmaking. When making an edition of 10 prints that look identical, every small element of each print starts to jump out at you. This attention to detail is something I incorporate into my work when designing. Making sure that your spacing and alignment are correct makes a big difference without the viewer evening realising. The beauty of many designs are in their details, whether they are complex or simple - it's all about making sure that every element there is lending something to the overall image.

2. Figure out what works and looks good before you start
Look at what others (competitors, Pinterest, etc.) do before you start so you can have an idea of what works visually. This is always a helpful thing to do, especially if you're feeling stuck or uninspired. Don't copy the work of others, but see what they have done - what works and what doesn't. This is an easy way to get out of a rut. Just like you'd do some research before writing a blog, the same thing applies visually.
3. Short cuts are a lifesaver
You can save a crazy amount of time when you have learned the shortcuts for various functions on Adobe software or programs/devices that you use. This prevents you from having to look for things on the drop-down menus, which is a definite time saver when working on big projects!
4. Check your work
You've probably been looking at it for a while so take a break and relook at it.

This one is self-explanatory - if you've stared at something for hours you are bound to miss something by the time you have finished. Get feedback from your team before showing the client. If you can, it's also a good idea to show someone who hasn't seen it before for a bit of outside perspective - once you think you've done. You definitely get used to the way something looks after looking at it for a period of time.
5. Be prepared to take criticism the right way and use it to make better designs
This is something that can be tough, but in the end, is definitely the way to make better designs that you, your team, and your client will be happy with. Take feedback as a critique of your work and not of yourself personally. Even if you have spent hours on something, feedback is generally a good way to make sure that your end result is something you're all happy with.
